  • Wednesday June 20th: Lunchtime Salon (Holbrook 134, 12:00 pm).PSR faculty member Jay Johnson discusses the future of on-line education, and reports back from his experience at the New Media Consortium Conference at MIT.
  • Wednesday June 27th: Lunchtime Salon (Holbrook 134, 12:00 pm). Join us for conversation with Teri Cannon, executive vice president of WASC (the Western Association of Schools and Colleges), the institution that accredits PSR. Teri will talk about the changing landscape of accreditation, the increased focus on the definition of “quality” of learning, and trends across other faith-based higher ed institutions
  • June date t.b.a. Learning Journey #3: Silicon Valley Innovation in the Peninsula.

July 2012

  • Wednesday July 11th: Lunchtime Salon (Holbrook 134, 12:00 pm) Rev. Fletcher Harper speaking on “sustainability” from multiple disciplinary perspectives (economics, ecology, non-profit)
  • Wednesday July 18th: Lunchtime Salon (Holbrook 134, 12:00 pm). CSD and PSR faculty member Devin Zuber leads a discussion about the humanities based on Martha Nussbaum’s Not for Profit: Why Democracy Needs the Humanities. Excerpts of Nussbaum’s book will be made available in advance of the salon; interested salon participants should email csd@psr.edu for electronic copies.
  • July 25th: Lunchtime Salon (Holbrook 134, 12:00 pm) Recent GTU PhD Richard Lindsay, speaking on a proposal for a new center of progressive Christianity, New Media and Popular Culture at PSR.

AUGUST 2012

  • August 1st: No weekly salon
  • August 8th: Lunchtime Salon (Holbrook 134, 12:00 pm). PSR faculty member and Swedenborgian House of Studies Director Jim Lawrence will present the faculty’s proposal for a Center of Excellence in Engaged Spirituality at PSR.
  • August 15th: Lunchtime Salon (Holbrook 134, 12:00 pm). Bishop Yvette Flunder and Rev. Bruce Reyes-Chow will share their experiences and insight on what successive generations of urban/emerging/progressive church might look like; and add to our ongoing discussion about the trajectory the church is on

August 22nd: Lunchtime Salon (Holbrook 134, 12:00 pm). PSR faculty members Horace Griffin, Jay Johnson and (CLGS Director) Bernie Schlager will present the faculty’s proposal for a Center of Excellence in LGBTQ Studies at PSR.  The Commission’s financial modeling consultant, Michael Leahey, will describe the process by which the Commission is exploring the financial implications of the proposals for a new vision of PSR’s future. 

August 29No Weekly Salon

SEPTEMBER 2012

  • September 5Lunchtime Salon – This fall the entire PSR community is invited to participate in a collaborative arts project that will help form PSR’s  future.  Details at this salon.
  • September 12 – Lunchtime Salon –  Dean Benny Liew will lead us in a discussion of possibilities for educational partnerships on the Pacific Rim.
